QCA Board announces appointment of new CEO

The Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Tom Gole as the next CEO of the Queensland Competition Authority (QCA).

“Dr Gole will bring to the QCA skills and insights gained from his impressive career, here and in the United States, in economic research, strategy consulting and business development,” said QCA Chair Dr Malcolm Roberts.

“The QCA conducted a nation-wide executive search to find our next CEO. Tom was the stand-out candidate in a high-quality field.”

Dr Gole is a graduate of the University of Queensland, with first class honours in economics and law, and holds a PhD in economics from Harvard University.

He has a strong grasp of the imperatives which drive investment in infrastructure and services, gained through many years as a strategy adviser to leading businesses, including at Boston Consulting Group. He was most recently an Executive Director at the Queensland Treasury Corporation, working closely with local governments.

Dr Gole will commence at the QCA on 6 October.

“I’m delighted to be joining the QCA. It plays an important role in supporting well-functioning markets and high-quality infrastructure for Queenslanders, and it has a strong reputation for rigorous, independent analysis,” Dr Gole said.

“I’m looking forward to working with Malcolm, the Board and the QCA team, and to building on the strong foundations Charles has established over the past decade.”

The QCA Board congratulates Tom and looks forward to working with him.

The QCA Board also records our appreciation for our retiring CEO, Mr Charles Millsteed. Charles’s outstanding leadership over the last 10 years has ensured that the QCA is an effective, respected regulator. Charles will be missed by his friends and colleagues.
