Urban retail water – south-east Queensland

Water distribution, retail, and sewerage services are provided two types of organisations – local councils and council-owned distributor-retailers – across south-east Queensland’s 11 local government areas.

Councils that provide water and sewerage services in their local government areas:

Council-owned distributor-retailers

  • Queensland Urban Utilities – servicing the local government areas of Brisbane, Ipswich, Somerset, Scenic Rim and Lockyer Valley
  • Unitywater – servicing Moreton Bay, Noosa and Sunshine Coast

Prices for water and sewerage services

Prices for water and sewerage services are determined by each of the council water businesses. The final water and sewerage bill customers receive has:

  • water business charges (Gold Coast, Logan, Redland, Queensland Urban Utilities or Unitywater), for the cost of providing water distribution, retail and sewerage services
  • state bulk water charge, which recover the cost of managing water supply assets (e.g. dams, weirs, pipelines and water treatment plants) provided by Seqwater.
