Review of Regulated Retail Electricity Prices for 2015-16

Today, the Queensland Competition Authority released a consultation paper to commence its 2015-16 review of regulated retail electricity prices.

“We have been asked by the Queensland Government to set regulated retail electricity prices in regional Queensland for 2015-16,” said QCA Chairman, Malcolm Roberts.

“The paper released today is the first step in a process which will take eight months.  As always, the QCA will consult widely with customers with public workshops to be held in regional towns across Queensland.  A draft determination will be released in advance of the workshops to give customers a clear sense of the issues being considered by the QCA.”

A final determination will be released in May 2015 to take effect from 1 July.

The determination for 2015-16 will be the first time the QCA has set prices solely for regional Queensland.  From 1 July 2015, price monitoring will replace price regulation in south east Queensland.  “We encourage customers to contribute to the consultation process,” said Malcolm Roberts.

Submissions in response to the interim consultation paper close on 28 October 2014.
