Gas Industry Code
Under the Gas Supply Act 2003 (as amended for the introduction of full retail competition), the Authority assumed responsibility for administering the Gas Industry Code from 1 July 2007.
The Gas Industry Code sets out rules for gas retailers and distributors including service obligations to customers, marketing conduct and the provision of information to customers.
On 1 July 2009, the Gas Industry Code was amended to accommodate the transfer of the Gas Retail Market Operator functions from the Queensland Gas Retail Market Operator to the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO). Further details of the operations of the AEMO can be found on the AEMO website here.
A copy of the updated Code and the Market Rules can be downloaded below.
The Act requires the Authority to, amongst other things, develop guidelines that set out (non-binding) procedures it will follow in the event, or likely event, of a contravention of the Gas Industry Code. To meet this requirement, the Authority has prepared its Guidelines for Pursuing Civil Penalties and Referring Matters to the Regulator in Relation to Contraventions of the Electricity and Gas Industry Codes. A copy of the guidelines can be downloaded below.
