Metrology

A metrology procedure describes how metering data is read, processed and delivered for use in settlement of a retailer's energy consumption in the wholesale market.

Jurisdictional regulators from Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT recently conducted a joint review of the various jurisdiction's metrology procedures and recommended that a single national metrology procedure be developed to replace the various state metrology procedures. The National Electricity Market Management Company (NEMMCO) was given responsibility for developing a national metrology procedure.

NEMMCO, in consultation with the Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC), has completed the consultation process on the development of this national metrology procedure.

The AEMC published its final determination on the changes required to the National Electricity Rules on 9 November 2006, and the new National Metrology Procedure came into effect on 1 January 2007.

As a result of these changes, NEMMCO is now the National Metrology Coordinator and hence is responsible for the administration of the new procedures, including Queensland metrology.

The new procedures can be accessed on the NEMMCO website.
