Suspension of Jackgreen International Pty Ltd

At 9 pm on Friday 18 December 2009, the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) issued a suspension notice to Jackgreen (International) Pty. As a result, Jackgreen was suspended from the National Electricity Market from midnight on 18 December 2009.

This means that Jackgreen can no longer supply electricity to its customers in Queensland. No other electricity retailer is affected by this suspension. The supply of electricity to all electricity customers in the Queensland electricity market will be maintained.

The suspension of Jackgreen triggered a process under the Electricity Act and the Electricity Regulations called the Retailer of Last Resort (ROLR) scheme that automatically transferred all affected customers to another electricity retailer so that their electricity would not be cut off.

Origin Energy became the ROLR (the default electricity retailer) for all Jackgreen customers in the Energex network area. For Jackgreen customers in Country Energy’s small retail area in the south of Queensland, they were transferred to Country Energy.  These transfers were made automatically by AEMO and customers are not required to do anything to ensure their continuity of supply.

It is important for customers to note the price arrangements under the Retailer of Last Resort contracts. For small customers (those who consume less than 100MWh a year, which includes residential and most small businesses) the price will be the notified price that is set by Government. For large customers (those who consume more than 100MWh a year) the price will be based on the National Electricity Market spot market price.

Origin Energy and Country Energy will be contacting the affected customers of Jackgreen who have been transferred to them, with details of the contract arrangements under the Retailer of Last Resort scheme.

If you are an affected Jackgreen customer and have concerns or an urgent matter to discuss, please call:

Origin Energy on 13 24 61 or

Country Energy on 13 23 56

Jackgreen customers may contact a retailer of their choice to investigate whether more attractive pricing arrangements are available. A list of the electricity retailers currently offering retail services in Queensland can be found here. Customers can also use the Authority’s price comparator to compare indicative prices offered by these retailers.

The Authority has also prepared answers to a list of frequently asked questions which can be accessed here.
