Electricity Industry Code
Under the Electricity Act 1994, the Authority became responsible for administering the Electricity Industry Code from 1 July 2007.
The Electricity Industry Code sets out rules for electricity retailers and distributors including service obligations to customers, marketing conduct and the provision of information to customers. The Code also provides rules on the management of distribution businesses, metering practices and the services between retailers and distributors.
There are three documents annexed to the Code. Annexure A is a Standard Connection Contract for small customers. Annexure B is the Standard Retail Contract for a small customer who has not signed a Negotiated Retail Contract. Annexure C contains a default Co-ordination Agreement between electricity distributors and retailers in providing services to retail customers.
The current version of the Code is version 4. This version came into effect on 4 August 2008. A revised version of the Code has been gazetted and will come into effect on 1 July 2010. An explanation of the changes that were introduced with version 4 can be found here.
