Notified Electricity Prices 2009-10

Having considered submissions received at various stages during the current process, reports prepared by CRA and ACIL Tasman and Concept Economics, the Authority released its Final Decision on the 2009-10 BRCI on 9 June 2009. The Final Decision and the consultant reports can be accessed below.

In its Final Decision, the Authority estimates that the BRCI will increase by 11.82% in 2009-10. This compares with an increase of 13.63% estimated at the time the Authority’s Draft Decision was released in December 2008.

This change is made up of:

  • an increase in energy costs of 12% (accounting for 45% of the total change) reflecting the impact of rising fuel and capital costs;
  • an increase in transmission and distribution costs of 12.3% (accounting for 48% of the total change) reflecting ongoing significant investment in the distribution networks; and
  • an increase in retail costs of 8.7% (accounting for the remaining 7% of the total change) reflecting mainly the fact that the retail margin increases proportionately with the increase in all other costs.

The Authority has applied this change in the BRCI to the existing notified prices to arrive at notified prices to apply from 1 July 2009.

The electricity tariffs for 2009-10 have been published in the Queensland Government Gazette on 9 June 2009. A copy of the Government Gazette notice can be accessed below.
