The Department of Natural Resources and Mines (DNRM) has reviewed the framework governing applications for mining leases and the grounds for objecting to an application.
As a result of this review, DNRM has developed the mining lease notification and objection initiative which seeks to improve the framework by:
streamlining and removing duplicated notification requirements
ensuring objection rights are relative to the risk, scale and impact of the mining operation
ensuring the Land Court's considerations are for relevant matters
reducing red tape and assessment times for the granting of a mining lease.
Following consultation on the proposals through a discussion paper and associated regulatory assessment, DNRM prepared a Decision Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS) which considers and responds to the issues raised in submissions.
