Final Decision - requested amendments to the Electricity Industry Code customer disconnection provisions

The proposed amendments relate to the use of a “Meter Switch Seal” (MSS) – where the main switch is turned off and a removable sticker is placed over the switch – as a means of disconnecting multi-occupancy premises.

Today we released our Final Decision, which concludes that, on balance, MSS disconnections are the best practical solution to the problem of disconnecting individual customers in multi-occupancy dwellings that do not have individual fusible links.

The Final Decision ensures retailers are not billed for network charges and provides for retailers to be compensated for unbilled electricity where an MSS has been performed.  The Final Decision also prevents a retailer from charging a customer while it is receiving compensation.

The proposed amendments have been sent to the Minister for Energy and Water Supply for approval.
